List of evil things that you should not do to your hair

Unfortunately, there are some things damaging your hair that you cannot avoid. However, you can limit many of them. It’s important to know what destroys our strands.

We must bear in mind that every hair is different and there are things that don’t harm some strands but they considerably weaken other hair.

Both bleaching hair and permanent wave keep you away from enjoying pretty and healthy hair. Both treatments make your strands dry instead of beautifying. We should remember that bleaching hair permanently damages hair cuticles. There is no way to rescue such hair.

2. HAIR COLOURING

This is another treatment which destroys your hair. Drug store hair dyes – even the most expensive and prestigious ones and marked as safe – contain ammonia or black colourant called PPD. Hair colouring makes your strands weak, dry whereas hair ends get split or even… brittle.

3. REGULAR USE OF A CURLER AND FLAT IRON

Heat (produced by curlers or flat irons) simply burns your hair. Such strands become brittle, dry and very hard to repair. Strongly burnt hair cannot be repaired. Go for straightening and curling on special occasions only.

4. STYLING PRODUCTS AND CONDITIONERS WITH ALCOHOL

Alcohols in hair products can be divided into two groups: the good ones which facilitate the absorption of beneficial substances and the bad ones which damage your hair and make the scalp dry. Keep in mind that even the good alcohols can make your strands and scalp dry. Hair gets dull, brittle, bounce-less and harder to style.

5. BLOW-DRYING WITH HOT AIRFLOW

Hot airflow emitted by the dryer makes your hair dry and weak as well as disturbs the functioning of sebaceous glands on the scalp. Effect: dry and excessively greasy scalp. Therefore, remember to choose the lowest temperature for blow-drying your hair.

6. HARMFUL ACTION OF WEATHER CONDITIONS

Blistering sun, strong wind, rain and frost damage your hair very quickly and effectively. In order to protect your strands from the action of weather conditions, reach out for natural oils – they have the ability to repair and create an invisible protection on hair surface which saves your hair from damage.

7. RUBBING YOUR HAIR WITH A TOWEL

We are not aware that when we dry our hair with a towel, we destroy its cuticles and hair structure. Preferably, gently press the excess water in the towel instead of rubbing it. In this way, you will protect it from breakage.

8. USING IMPROPER ACCESSORIES

Plastic brushes and combs with sharp teeth aren’t good brushing accessories. They tangle, tear, pull out and weaken your hair, and cause static. The perfect solution is to get a brush or comb with natural material e.g. wood or natural bristle.

9. NOT USING HAIR CONDITIONERS

Conditioning hair is essential. Shampooing isn’t enough to enjoy beautiful hair. You must nourish your strands properly in order to have healthy and strong hair. It would be ideal if you combined a few ways of nourishing – natural oils, hair balms and conditioner and e.g. sprays and serum for the protection of hair ends.

10. IMPROPERLY-CHOSEN CONDITIONING PRODUCTS

Don’t pay attention to friend’s recommendations or excellent commercials – choose shampoos and products which meet the needs of your hair. We all have different hair which has different needs. If you identify the problem, it will help you to choose proper care. The basic criteria for assessing your hair condition are: structure, density and porosity.

11. SLEEPING WITH WET HAIR

Hair cuticles (especially wet, more prone to damage) which are rubbed on the pillow get damaged more quickly. The condition of such hair may get destroyed within eight hours of sleep. It’s better to put the hair in a loose bun than go to sleep with wet and loose hair. Drying it – even gently – before going to bed would be ideal.
